Training

NZ-RT11 (CURSAR) train most Monday nights from 1930hrs through to approximately 2130 hrs. We do a variety of training from lowers, first aid and radio work to welfare, headquarters/operations and team building.

We also have weekend trainings which may involve a rescue exercise, courses, specialised trainings and learning rescue techniques.

In any one year we will have two rescue exercises organised by Canterbury Civil Defence Emergency Management Group (Canterbury CDEMG) which involve working with other New Zealand Response Teams (NZRTs) from the Canterbury CDEMG and Christchurch's local Community Emergency Response Teams (CERTs). These exercises may involve a multi site rescue situation or a single site exercise.

We have an annual rescue competition called the Cliff Dale Trophy, which has a variety of disciplines and rescue techniques that the teams compete in, for a range trophies.

We have Combined Training which involves training with other Canterbury CDEMG NZRTs on a week night or a half day in the weekend.

We as a team we take pride in our training and try to make them as realistic as possible, so we can be prepared for the day when an Adverse Event/Civil Defence Emergency is declared. We also hope that this day will never come.

But lets not forget that there has to be team spirit and we try to help build this through having fun. So from time-to-time we have a training night that we call a Fun Night. This is where a team member will organise a training night that is just fun; No rescue, No lowers, No first Aid, just a night to relax and get to know your team mates a little better.
